Beginning the Biscuit Quilt

Ball Fring at Amazon.com
I'm really excited about this project I just started.  It is a crib sized blanket with purples and whites, and I get to learn a new skill, working with biscuits.  What's a buscuit you ask?  It's like little pillows of fabric sewn together to make a quilt reminicent of moguls.  I'm planning on making a checker pattern of various whites and purples and making a border that includes ball fringe like the picture to the right.  It's destined for Etsy.  I have about 20 biscuits completed, with 412 left to go!

Flocks At Night Stocking

This stocking is my son's.  I wanted him to have a stocking that was fun to touch, so I chose a scene with fluffy sheep.  The night sky is denim.  The embroidery reads "A savior has been born to you".

Wise Men Christmas Stocking

It is January today and I am just getting around to taking down our Christmas decorations.  Our stockings were particularly fun to make.  I love Christmas, and having children makes it so much more of a celebration.  This stocking is my husband's.  It is a silhouette of the three wise men on their journey to pay homage to the newborn king.  I worked the front details by hand, but used the machine for constructing the rest.

"When they saw the star, they were overjoyed"

Crib Bedding

This is the bedding set that I made for my daughter's crib.  I recovered my son's blue bumper in a plush minky white with pink gossamer bows.  The crib skirt is hibiscus embroidered with a simple edge finish using the ribbon.  She needed to share a room with her brother in his tropical themed room and I couldn't find any tropical themed girl's bedding that looked soft and fit for a baby girl.  That's what's so great about quilting and sewing, you can make whatever you need.

Car Seat Cover

We have a friend who's son grew out of their infant car seat, so they passed it on to us.  We couldn't afford to buy a car seat at the time, so we were so thankful to have it.  I have to say though, that I don't really recommend using a used car seat. Nor do I recommend recovering a car seat because it nullifies your warranty.  All things considered in our situation though, I felt comfortable with knowing how to recover it in a way that wouldn't hinder it's effectiveness in a crash.  With that being said, I've added a picture of it here to show the patchwork on the shade.

Second Boppi Pillow Cover

It's always smart to have two of something that will get dirty often.  After I finished the blue Daddy Boppi cover, I started one about Mommy.  I used cotton fabric I had stashed for a bed quilt.  Instead of a velcrow closure like the blue cover, I sewed snaps onto two sided hearts.  A zipper would have been much easier to use, but I was trying to use what I already owned.

First Boppi Cover

This Boppi Pillow cover I dubbed the "Daddy hug".  My husband was really into button up shirts with some variation of blue stripes.  I took one out of the many in his closet and used it to piece the top of this cover.  The bottom was a pair of jeans that he wore until the knees split apart.  This cover was all about daddy.  I even included the shirt's tag.
